Mr. A.E. (Bud) Hoard, lifelong resident of Millington, Mi passed from our world into God’s Kingdom late Wednesday afternoon August 11, 2021 at the age of 90.
Bud was born on January 6, 1931, in Millington, Mi and was the son of the late Van and Beatrice (Barkley) Hoard. Bud graduated from Millington High School in 1949. After high school he served our country during the Korean War in the United States Marine Corp. On March 8, 1951, Bud married Mary Dawe, and they celebrated 69 years of marriage before Mary passed away in 2020. Bud was employed with General Motors Buick Division for 36 years before he retired. He was an active member of the Millington United Methodist Church, of which he participated in the Men’s Bible studies and even at times hosted the group in his home. Bud was very active in the Millington Community, a community of which he loved dearly. He served on the Millington- Arbela Twp. Fire Dept. for 41 years and 19 of those years he served as Fire Chief. Bud also was the Millington Twp. Cemetery Sexton/Supervisor for 30 years and took great pride in keeping the cemetery in good shape, He was never involved in anything for recognition, but was always there to help in any way possible. He was very humbled when in 1991 the Millington Summer Festivals Committee honored him as Citizen of the year. He was recently honored in this year's Millington's Old Fashioned Day parade as a Hometown Hero.
Bud leaves his four daughters and other family to cherish his memory. Daughters; Karen Cummins, Patricia Hoard, Janet (David) Mercer, and Hope (Randy) Oryszczak. His eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and a sister Janice Podgers. Bud leaves also nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Besides his wife Mary and his parents, Bud is also preceded in death by a daughter Kay (Bob) Groulx, and a brother Jimmy Hoard.
The family will greet friends and neighbors on Wednesday August 18, 2021, for a time of fellowship and sharing beginning at 9:30 am at the Millington United Methodist. A celebration of Bud’s life will be on Wednesday August 18, 2021, beginning at 11:00 am at the Millington United Methodist Church. In keeping with Bud’s request cremation has taken place and there will be a private urn burial. Memorial gifts of remembrance can be directed to; the Millington-Arbela Twps. Fire Dept, the Millington United Methodist Church, or Compassus Hospice.
