Obituary

Homer passed from our world into God's Kingdom early Saturday afternoon November 18, 2017 while at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility in Caro, MI. Homer was 81

Homer was born in Alma, Michigan October 28, 1936. He grew up on a farm between Montrose & Birch Run with 4 siblings. He graduated from Birch Run High School and was a member of the Army Reserves where he was stationed in Germany.

Homer and his wife Judy met through Judy’s sister who in turn was seeing Homer’s brother. Ultimately sisters ended up marrying brothers. Homer wrote Judy the entire time he was overseas in the military and when he returned they got married on October 22, 1960. They have 4 children (1 boy and three girls) and 6 grandchildren.

Homer was a part-time farmer and grew soy beans and corn. He worked at Saginaw Steering Gear/Delphi as an OD / ID Grinder until he retired in January 1998.
Homer and Judy sold their home and farm in Birch Run and moved to Vassar in 2002. Homer was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Millington and he enjoyed old movies (especially John Wayne movies) watching the Detroit Tigers and all forms of football.
Homer leaves behind him his wife Judy (Brinkman) Harpst, his son Richard Harpst, Daughters Christina (Randy) Wolverton, Rachel (Donald) Tereau and Jodie (Scott) Addington.

His grandchildren Adam (Elizabeth) Wolverton, Brandon Tereau, Jessica (Julian) Jesberg, Ashley Wolverton, Rebecca Tereau and Joper Addington.
Homer also leaves a sister Erma (Glen) Tanner and a brother Harold (Eileen) Harpst. He is preceded by his parents Floyd and Lillian (Epler) Harpst, brother Raymond Harpst and sister Donna Dowd

The Harpst family will receive friends at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington Tuesday Nov. 21, 2017 from 3:00 pm unitl 8:00 pm, and also for a brief time on Wednesday from 10:00 am until the services begin. Funeral services for Homer will be on Wednesday Nov. 22, 2017 at 11:00am at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Millington, MI. The burial will follow after the dinner and time of fellowship at the Riverside Cemetery in Vassar at 2:00 pm. Pastor James Bruner will deliver the funeral message and the committal prayer at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family has asked to please consider a memorial gift of remembrance to St. Paul Lutheran church or the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility.
